Evans River K-12 School has been working towards establishing connections with its local indigenous community. The Norta- Norta tutor program operates out of the 'Boogulbah' room, which is a meeting place at the school that works towards assisting studies, transitions and special needs for our students.
Our aim as a learning support team is to build up effective relationships with our students and their parents so that we can provide assistance that is beneficial for cultural growth and development.
Some activities our students have taken part in include: Deadly Days and NAIDOC celebrations. Our students have also been involved in TAFE courses, reading programs, V Tracks, Cultural excursions, Connecting to Country exercises and have actively assisted in school based traineeships/events.
The Norta-Norta program focuses on:
- assistance with assessment tasks
- promote interaction in school events
- retention and attendance
- building practical work skills for future employment
- support students with their goals in and out of school
- identifying with cultural values.
