School To Employment Pathway

The STEP Senior Program in Vocational Education and Training is an alternative course offered at Evans River K-12 School. It is designed to give students opportunities to gain vocational and life skills during Year 11 & 12. Students will have opportunities to experience a wide range of activities which will better prepare them for the workplace.

Advantages you will gain by attempting this course
  1. Study courses which are more relevant to vocational aspects than other academic courses
  2. Participate in work related to English for Living, General Mathematics
  3. Gain life skills training not available in many other courses
  4. Participate in a TAFE course whilst at school
  5. You may gain a Record of Achievement given by NESSA and gain nationally recognised credentials by completing your TAFE course
  6. Accreditation for short courses completed online
  7. Employer and industry recognised qualifications
  8. Qualifications accepted by TAFE institutes throughout Australia
  9. Participate in Work Studies and mandatory work placement
  10. Experience a workplace opportunity as an integral part of your course.
  11. Experience in a number of different workplaces leading to employment reports from a variety of employers
  12. Build up a portfolio of credentials, workplace reports from work placements and personal references
  13. Part of a smaller group which have a common interest in vocational training
  14. Liaison with outside agencies

Course Outline:

The S.T.E.P. Senior Program in Vocational Education and Training has the following components.

School Delivered Courses

Time tabled periods will be allocated to compulsory subjects. All students are required to do:

  • Workplace English
  • Workplace Numeracy
  • Living Skills

TAFE Delivered Vocational Course

As part of this course students have selected a TAFE course. Students are able to select from a range of courses.

These are delivered at local TAFE campuses on Wednesdays.

Students are to organise their own transport.

Work Placement: (Compulsory) – Monday & Tuesday

As a component of your Skills for Work course you are required to complete a work placement for this subject.

During your course it is possible that you will have a variety of workplace experiences. These are likely to be in the same job area in which you have an interest.

You will be required to keep a portfolio of all work placement activities.

No classes are timetabled on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
