Languages Other Than English

At Evans River K-12 School, we are proud to offer Indonesian as part of our Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program. Our specialist LOTE teacher delivers engaging and interactive lessons designed to immerse students in the rich culture and language of Indonesia. Through a variety of activities, including listening activities, conversation practice and cultural exploration, students develop their language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Indonesian traditions and society.

At Evans River we believe that learning Indonesian is crucial for our students. It not only enhances communication abilities, but also fosters appreciation for diversity and global citizenship. As Australia's closest neighbour, Indonesia plays a significant role in our cultural and diplomatic relations.
Understanding the language not only deepens students' awareness of regional geopolitics and economic opportunities but also enriches their appreciation of Indonesia's vibrant culture, including its music, dance, and cuisine.
Proficiency in Indonesian can enhance career prospects in a globalised job market, particularly in fields such as tourism, international relations, and business.

"We have a saying in Indonesia, 'tak kenal maka tak sayang'. This means that if we do not know each other then we would not care for each other. Knowing more of each other's needs, views and thoughts is an important building block in our relationship."
