Design and Technology

Our Year 5 and 6 students take part in fortnightly Design and Technology lessons at the high school, where they explore a variety of Technical and Applied Sciences. With access to specialist facilities including the woodwork room, food technology kitchen, marine centre, and agricultural plot, students enjoy hands-on learning experiences that build creativity, problem-solving and practical skills. These sessions give our students a taste of high school learning and inspire curiosity about the world around them.

Agriculture Plot

In Years 5/6 students often take part in hands on learning through an agriculture plot and school garden. This practical experience helps them understand how plants grow and animals are taken care of. They explore topics such as composting, sustainability and the importance of protecting the environment.

Food Technology

These lessons give students the opportunity to develop practical cooking skills while learning about nutrition, safety and healthy eating. Students explore wheere food comes from, how ingredients are grown or produced and how to prepare simple and balanced meals.

Marine Centre

Students learn about marine biology, animals, habitats and ecosystems. Lessons often link to science and geography, helping students understand food chains, biodiversity and conservation. Experiences at the marine centre inspire curiosity and respect for the natural world, encouraging students to think about how they can help care for the planet's oceans and wildlife.
