Science

At Evans River K-12 School the science faculty prides itself on delivering an engaging and motivating learning environment. With a wide knowledge area our staff can offer extensive programs in the areas of 7-10 Science, 9-10 Marine, 7-12 Agriculture, Senior Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Investigating Science and Earth and Environmental Science.

The science faculty is well equipped with three laboratories, preparatory room and Marine Science Facility to ensure an increased ability to provide practical experiences for students. Students are supplied with the latest equipment making their science education highly competitive.

We endeavour to provide new challenges and set high expectations for our students. Students are expected to employ what they have learnt to critical thinking situations and relate their experience to local environments.

Our goal is to create a passion for science within our students which will see them well equipped for work or future university studies. In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Science is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 10.

Science 7-10

Science 7-10 provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real-world problems. Science emphasises the skills for working scientifically, as well as critical and creative thinking to address scientific issues.

Years 9 and 10

In Years 9 and 10, students can also choose the electives Marine Science and Agriculture.

Years 11 and 12

In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Environmental Science
  • Investigating Science
  • Physics.
  • Marine Science
  • Agriculture

In Year 12, students who are studying at least one other science subject may also choose to study Science Extension.
